Performance Springs
X5K Coil Springs
IFS Armoured Platforms
Hot-formed from high-grade X5K spring steel and precision tempered at 400°C — Tough Dog Armoured coil springs deliver the structural integrity required for independent front suspension (IFS) platforms carrying B4–B7 ballistic protection across demanding operational terrain.
Phosphate coating combined with powder coat finish provides dual-layer corrosion protection — critical for armoured vehicles operating in coastal, tropical, and desert environments where standard springs corrode rapidly.

Advanced Engineering Features
X5K Spring Steel
High-performance spring steel alloy with chromium and vanadium additives delivering superior strength and fatigue life. X5K maintains spring memory at extreme temperatures and resists stress relaxation — essential for IFS-equipped armoured vehicles under sustained heavy loads.
Hot Formed & 400°C Tempered
Coil springs shaped at elevated temperatures, then precision tempered at 400°C. This two-stage process relieves internal stress, creates uniform material structure, and maximises fatigue resistance — delivering reliable load management at 2–3× factory GVM.
Phosphate + Powder Coat
Dual-layer corrosion protection. Phosphate creates a chemically bonded base layer with superior corrosion resistance; powder coat provides the durable outer finish. Critical for vehicles operating in coastal, tropical, or desert environments.
Precision Geometry
Each coil spring is engineered to precise diameter, rate, and free-height specifications for the exact vehicle platform and armour load. Ensures correct ride height, suspension travel, and damping interaction with Tough Dog shock absorbers.

Technical Detail
Why X5K Steel and Hot Forming Matter
Standard coil springs for civilian 4WDs are cold-wound from lower-grade spring steel. Cold winding introduces residual tensile stress at the coil surface — exactly the stress state that promotes fatigue crack growth. Under armoured vehicle loads (2–3× factory GVM), cold-wound springs fail rapidly at their predicted load limit.
X5K spring steel's chromium and vanadium additions provide a significantly higher tensile strength ceiling and superior resistance to stress relaxation — the gradual loss of spring rate over time. Hot forming at elevated temperatures eliminates residual forming stress while enabling precise geometry that would be impossible to achieve cold.
The 400°C temper that follows hot forming is what separates X5K springs from every alternative: it induces compressive residual stress at the coil surface, converts the crystal structure, and sets the final spring rate with precision tolerances that persist through the full operating life of the spring.
